Foundation and foundation wall waterproofing
Foundation protection is selected according to ground conditions, water exposure and the use of spaces below ground. Waterproofing and the surrounding drainage work together.
Establish the exposure
- Collect details of the foundation type, ground levels, surface water and groundwater, and the operation of perimeter drains. For refurbishment, also establish the existing build-ups and observed moisture.
- Ordinary moisture exposure and continuous hydrostatic pressure require different assessments. A structure exposed to water pressure needs waterproofing designed for that condition.
Coordinate the junctions
- Foundation wall waterproofing may use a project-specified bituminous membrane system. Design the product, substrate, joints and penetrations as one complete system.
- Detail the waterproofing junctions at the footing, ground floor and above-ground level separately. Drainage boards, waterproofing and radon sealing perform different functions, even where they share junctions.
Inspect before backfilling
- Agree substrate acceptance, inspection and photography of concealed work. Protect the waterproofing from damage during backfilling and other work in accordance with the design.
- The request for a quotation needs sections, areas to be waterproofed, junction details, site access arrangements and excavation limits. Identify who will carry out drainage, thermal insulation and backfilling.
Use and design responsibility
TEP Roof Oy guide cards support project preparation and the definition of contract scope. They are not project-specific construction designs. The project structural designer is always responsible for checking the suitability of the solutions presented and adapting them to the project's structures, loads and requirements. Construction requires project-specific design and approval, together with the current manufacturer's instructions for the selected products.
