Podium deck waterproofing
Podium deck waterproofing is usually covered by the surface build-up. Establish the intended use, loads, drainage and inspections before installing the covering layers.
The intended use defines the build-up
- State whether the deck is used by pedestrians or vehicles, includes planting or has another use, and whether there is a heated space below. The designer determines the loads and layers.
- In an inverted roof, the waterproofing lies beneath the thermal insulation. An uninsulated deck build-up is also possible; select the solution according to the use and conditions of the project.
Consider water at every layer
- In addition to surface water, water reaching the waterproofing level must drain as designed. Coordinate outlets, drainage layers and junctions with the build-up.
- Repairing concealed waterproofing may require extensive removal of overlying layers. Check material compatibility, adhesion to the substrate and junction workmanship before covering.
Define the contract interfaces
- Attach deck plans, build-up drawings and junction details at walls, doors and outlets. Identify the contractor for the surface layers and the installation sequence.
- Agree waterproofing quality assurance, records and protection from subsequent work. Define acceptance before installation of covering layers and responsibility for damage caused by later installations.
Use and design responsibility
TEP Roof Oy guide cards support project preparation and the definition of contract scope. They are not project-specific construction designs. The project structural designer is always responsible for checking the suitability of the solutions presented and adapting them to the project's structures, loads and requirements. Construction requires project-specific design and approval, together with the current manufacturer's instructions for the selected products.
