TEP Roof delivers bituminous waterproofing for podium decks in new-build and refurbishment projects. We agree the stages from acceptance of the substrate to inspection and protection of the waterproofing.
TEP ROOF’S SCOPE OF WORK
Waterproofing within the complete deck build-up.
Podium deck waterproofing is often covered by other construction layers. The scope therefore needs to be agreed with both the substrate contractor and the contractor installing the surface layers.
Waterproofing and drainage
Install bituminous waterproofing to the design. Record responsibility for the supply and installation of outlets and other drainage components in the contract.
Inspection and protection
Agree inspection points before covering, documentation and protection of the completed waterproofing during subsequent work.

What is needed for a podium deck quotation?
- Deck use, such as a courtyard, access area or parking, and the use of the spaces below.
- Build-up, waterproofing position, outlets and junction details.
- Waterproofing area, substrate readiness and construction phasing.
- Responsibility for stripping, preparation, protection and surface layers.
For refurbishment, information on the existing layers, leaks and surveys is also needed. Removing and reinstating surface layers is not included in the waterproofing contract unless separately agreed.

Can a podium deck repair contract cover waterproofing alone?
Waterproofing can be a separate contract. However, stripping, substrate repairs and reinstatement of surface layers still need to be planned together. The client and designer determine the repair scope from the available information.
When is the waterproofing inspected?
Inspection and required documentation are agreed before covering layers are installed. The inspection is included in the site programme so that the waterproofing’s condition can be recorded before the next contractor begins.
Can the contract be prepared before the surface material is chosen?
You can start the discussion with some information still undecided. The deck’s use and intended build-up must, however, be confirmed with the designer before the final waterproofing solution and contract scope are agreed.
