TEP ROOF OY · PROJECT PLANNING GUIDE
Fire and moisture requirements
Fire classification and special requirements are design inputs. An individual selection in the project planner does not approve a product or a combination of layers for the project.
Keep the classifications distinct
- The Finnish building fire class P0, P1, P2 or P3 describes the design basis of the building. It is not the same as a construction product's reaction-to-fire class.
- Fire resistance of a building element is expressed using designations such as R, E and I together with a time period. The roof covering classification BROOF(t2), in contrast, concerns external fire exposure. Check that the classification applies to the build-up being used.
Moisture management is part of construction
- Agree material protection, verification of substrate dryness, stage inspections and records. Moisture that could compromise performance must not remain trapped in the build-up.
- Building use, indoor conditions and the risk of wetting during construction affect the design. Ventilation does not compensate for an inadequate vapour control layer or waterproofing.
Identify special requirements early
- Include the client's and insurer's written requirements, together with information on roof equipment and business continuity, in the request for a quotation. Data centre requirements, for example, must be established for the individual project.
- If a classification or requirement is missing, mark it as unresolved and ask the project designer to confirm it before committing to a construction solution.
Use and design responsibility
TEP Roof Oy guide cards support project preparation and the definition of contract scope. They are not project-specific construction designs. The project structural designer is always responsible for checking the suitability of the solutions presented and adapting them to the project's structures, loads and requirements. Construction requires project-specific design and approval, together with the current manufacturer's instructions for the selected products.
