DATA CENTRES AND CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

Data centre roofs.

A data centre roofing contract depends on the roof build-up, client requirements, services interfaces and construction phasing. Review these with TEP Roof before agreeing the contract.

TEP ROOF’S SCOPE OF WORK

Coordinating the roof and building services.

TEP Roof’s roofing contract can include the roof covering, thermal insulation, vapour control layer and eaves. The project designers specify an acceptable complete build-up; client-specific conditions should accompany the request for quotation.

Penetrations and rooftop services

Compile a penetration schedule, equipment interfaces and access and maintenance routes. Agree when the other contractors will carry out their work.

Construction phasing

Review the roof zones, material lifts and weather protection responsibilities. Consider restrictions on use and access during construction when preparing the work.

Requirements and documentation

Identify the client’s, designer’s and insurer’s requirements and the necessary product documents. Include inspections and handover documentation in the contract.

PROJECT INFORMATION

Include special requirements in the request for quotation.

  • Roof plan, roof build-up, roof zones and target programme.
  • Building fire class, requirements for the roof structure and any insurer’s conditions.
  • Locations of rooftop services, penetrations, maintenance routes and provision for future expansion.
  • Site and access procedures, inspection hold points and documentation requirements.

Requirements can also be recorded as undecided in the project planner. A material choice or building fire class alone does not demonstrate a roof’s suitability for a data centre. The solution and its approval must be defined during project design.

CLIENT QUESTIONS

Before commissioning the work.

Can I decide the roof covering for a data centre in the project planner?

The project planner records your preferences and known choices. It does not provide technical approval. The roof covering, insulation, fixings and junctions are selected according to the project design and product- and system-specific requirements.

Is the building’s fire class enough for a request for quotation?

The fire class is one input. Also include the structural and product requirements specified by the designer, and the client’s and insurer’s special conditions. If a document is missing, say so when defining the quotation’s scope.

How are operations in an existing building taken into account?

Describe the occupied areas, permitted working hours, access restrictions and operations that need protection during the work. Phasing, possible interruptions and working procedures are reviewed with the client and included in the contract before work starts.
